Hiking, birding & nature

Sarona is home to Hunt Hill, a roughly 600-acre nature preserve and Audubon sanctuary with about seven miles of hiking trails, including the well-known Bog Trail. Birdwatching around Long Lake is excellent, making it a favorite for nature lovers and families alike.

ATV, UTV & trail riding

Washburn County is a premier destination for ATV, UTV and trail riders, with hundreds of miles of well-maintained routes. The Wild Rivers State Trail runs roughly ninety-six miles along an old rail grade connecting Rice Lake to Solon Springs, and the Tuscobia State Trail stretches about seventy-four miles from near Birchwood to Park Falls — both open to ATVs and snowmobiles.

Scenic drives & biking

Beautiful, lightly traveled country roads make the area a joy for bicycling and motorcycle touring, with lake views and forest scenery around nearly every bend.

Every season has something

Summer means fishing, swimming, paddling and golf; fall brings trophy fishing and spectacular color; and winter transforms the area into a hub for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and ice fishing. See our dedicated winter on Long Lake guide for the cold-weather lineup.

Base your trip here: book a lakefront cabin, eat at The Landing, and use nearby Spooner, Rice Lake, Birchwood and Hayward for shopping, dining and day trips.
